Personal Computer Laboratory The Department of Information Management has a department-exclusive computer laboratory, which is equipped with 61 computers with 27” curved monitors, single- and double-DMD projectors, a hardware teaching broadcasting system, network switches, multitrack mixers, and MIDI keyboards. The equipment is provided for 11 learn-by-doing classes each semester for practice as well as for the free use of this department’s students outside of class time. The laboratory was opened and is managed by department volunteers, while assistant teachers provide academic assistance.
Data Exploration and Decision Analysis Laboratory Data exploration is the discovery of useful or interesting samples within large volumes of data. The research focus of this laboratory is the use of data exploration technologies, decision analysis, and decision models for conducting data analysis and applications to find useful information or trends hidden in large volumes of data for enterprise decision-makers to reference. In practical topics, to comply with the department’s development features, information systems built in this laboratory cover information and cultural creativity as well as health promotions. Research field include data exploration and analysis, big data analysis, computing intelligence, multivariate analysis, decision support systems, enterprise resource planning, and decision methods and applications. Practical topics for the laboratory include information and cultural creativity, building health promotion systems, and data exploration and applications.
Electronic Marketing Laboratory The Electronic Marketing Laboratory was established to equip students with skills to plan and design electronic marketing solutions, which will aid in the effective use of information and communication technologies and information analysis technologies in various marketing activities. This department’s electronic marketing courses are designed to cultivate students’ professional knowledge and skills in three major fields: (1) electronic business process operations, (2) electronic marketing, and (3) marketing information system planning and application skills. The electronic business process operations component mainly cultivates students’ understanding of business operations and e-commerce operational models. The electronic marketing component is based on marketing knowledge to increase the students’ understanding of Internet consumer behaviors, Internet marketing, and mobile commerce, as well as their use of information technology, to assist businesses in improving customer relationships. The systems building and applications component mainly equips students with skills in marketing information system building, webpage functions planning, and data exploration and analysis.
Service Science-Oriented Decision Analysis Laboratory This laboratory is a special research laboratory for Chen-Tung Chen, Yuan-Chu Hwang, and Hsiao-Ting Tseng; its members include these three teachers and the third- and fourth-year undergraduate students and graduate research students they advise through research projects. Service science aims to help businesses analyze service fields through design thinking methods, discover opportunities for value creation, and use information technology to provide “new service opportunities.” Service science also emphasizes joint value creation between participants in service innovation and design. The concept of joint value creation comes from service dominant logic, which centers around service and values the exchange of services; that is, the exchange of knowledge and resources in the service process. This research lab is based on service sciences, exploring service opportunities in specific fields and integrating more diverse decision analysis techniques, knowledge and theories, and emerging AI information technology theories, to propose innovative service architectures and application designs for emerging problems.
Intelligent Data Analysis and Information Retrieval Laboratory This laboratory focuses on topics related to machine learning, data exploration, decision methods, and information retrieval for researching method innovation and applying data analysis. The aim is to find useful information or trends hiding in large quantities of data that can be provided for the reference of business decision-makers. In practical topics, to comply with the department’s development features, information systems built in this laboratory cover information and cultural creativity, health promotions, and interactive technologies. This laboratory’s research field include data exploration and analysis, big data analysis, machine learning, multivariate analysis, emotion analysis, information retrieval, enterprise resource planning systems, and decision methods and applications.

Innovative Information Technology Applications Laboratory This laboratory focuses on environmental studies on information technology in improving human–machine interactions, providing innovative integrated applications and organization and career research on wireless and mobile communications, the Internet of Things, intelligent wearable devices, and humanized interactive technologies. This laboratory also conducts R&D on these topics to apply to fields in culture and creativity, smart care, and health promotions.

This laboratory’s research field include the Internet of Things, personal mobile communication systems, wireless communications, mobile network communication security and management, network multicasting systems, indoor positioning, computer visual and behavioral controls, multimedia interactive technologies, second language digital learning, AI deep learning applications, and organization and career studies.

Programming Base Supervisors: M.G. Wen and Po-Chi Chen

Programming is technology literacy that is globally valued, and programmers are the nation’s most valuable cerebral assets.

The Programming Base has 24 developer work stations, each equipped with a 32-inch monitor or 24-inch dual monitors. Furthermore, a 50-inch shared monitor and discussion white board is set up for every six work stations. Books on programming are also available for reading within the base and for the convenience of peers conducting programming exchanges and discussions. This lab is an excellent learning base for programming.

The programming base provides master programmers on campus with a mechanism for learning from each other and improving their skills through experience, and through alumni and industry assistance it establishes a programming and development field for consistent learning. Moreover, to popularize programming language literacy among members of an information society, this laboratory creates a learning field that promotes the motivations and achievements of beginner programmers. In conjunction with the social responsibilities of local universities and in response to holistic education and professional cultivation, this base is also a promotional center for information and programming education in rural areas.

Information Management Forum The field of information management is the integrated application of information technology and business management to respond to the rapid advancement of information technology and new issues of business management that follow. In addition to solid and comprehensive course training, to facilitate the exchange of new trends and knowledge, the Department of Information Management has established space for the Information Management Forum and plans to invite alumni and students with expertise in different fields to give 15–30-minute speeches or presentations to share or introduce new knowledge or perspectives, or new technologies or innovations, to expand the horizons of this Department’s students and provide a venue for exhibiting outstanding achievements.

In addition to multifunctional and flexible spatial combinations that can be adjusted to the activities and an open platform suitable for lectures, the forum is equipped with a dual-camera speech recording system. A multifunctional environment capable of instantaneous livecasting is planned for the future to satisfy the purpose of establishing this space.

Creative Cases Classroom In support of the teaching philosophy of “Learning by doing,” this department designed a learning environment in which students can combine theoretical concepts with practical scenarios. The design for the Creative Cases Classroom—an important teaching environment that integrates theory and practice—is based on the concept of a multifunctional classroom, mainly to support this department’s creative course series and case discussion courses. The classroom can be dynamically adjusted and adapted to different scenarios and group compositions, and is equipped with flexible combination discussion tables and eight information platforms for students to use when discussing individual cases. This classroom also serves as a space that supports students breaking into groups for discussion and presentation practice—in the process of learning by doing, students cultivate their skills in integrating technologies as well as their holistic professional skills, including presentation skills.
